Hello from CIA (Changi International Airport), Singapore!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Singapore is pretty cool! Without giving it much thought I’d say that Singapore is as close to the US as you can get without flying half-way around the world.  It been an excellent trip so far.  Great food and lots of things to do.  There are tons of nice cars, expensive hotels, and restaurants which explains the cost of things here.  Everything is expensive.  But it has sure been nice to have some old favorites: Ben and Jerry’s, McDonald’s breakfast (McGriddles), and Starbucks. So we didn’t see half of what we wanted to and I haven’t said all I need to but time is up.  Off to KL.  Later!

Our First Trip Out of India: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Perhentian Besar Malaysia

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Soooo….  this is a little bit out of synch as I haven’t even posted the events of our last 2 1/2 months here in Bangalore but what the hell… WE’RE GOING TO SINGAPORE!!

Our flight to Singapore leaves tonight.  I’m still getting some last minute things squared away (a new blog post being one of them) so this will be short and sweet.  We spend the next 3 days in Singapore where we’ll eat great food, see some places like China Town and Sentosa Island, and enjoy the extreme cleanliness that is in stark contrast to Bangalore (sad but true). We may even have a real Singapore sling at the bar where they originated… if we decide to spend $20 on one drink…. that’s like 2 veg pizza’s in Bangalore ;-)

Then we take a quick flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  KL is probably best known for its twin towers.  Once the tallest towers in the world, the Petronas towers were featured in the Sean Connery/Catherine Zeta Jones film ‘Entrapment’.

I’m sure we’ll discover other cool things to see and do there but for now we’re just going to wing it.

We spend 3 days in Kuala Lumpur before hopping another short flight to Kota Terangganu.  From there we’ll take a cab to a jetty where we’ll hop a boat to Perhentian Besar.  AKA Big Perhentian is an island off the eastern coast of Malaysia.  It is a popular diving destination as well as a tropical paradise.  There are no cars, no roads, and no hassles.  Here we’ll spend 3 days in a hut on a beach.  Here we’ll do nothing but lay on the beach, play on the beach, eat fish, snorkel, lay on the beach, and… that’s about it.

So good bye and Ill get going on the blogging updates when we return (because none of the pictures above are really ours :-))
